It’s called dressing a sofa for a reason - because furniture and fashion go hand-in-hand. With the launches of our new Zinc Sofabed exclusively designed in partnership with DFS and our new AW22 clothing collection, we decided to revamp both our wardrobes and our spaces, and where better to start than with the living room centrepiece?
Accessorising your sofa is an easy and effortless way to refresh your decor and reflect your own personal style, making your home truly your own. The best part to dressing your sofa is that the key is comfort – all other rules are out the window. Whether you want to channel chic elegance, have a flair for fresh contemporary, or feel like a mix of everything… we’re here to show you how to make it work.
LAYERING UP
Styling your sofa is all down to personal preference, so where one might decide that less is more, another may feel that a limit to the amount of accessories does not exist – ask yourself, which side do you lean to? If understated is your forte, you may decide to freely scatter your cushions or keep a cosy corner.
For those looking to layer up, we recommend showcasing a mix of shapes, colours and textures – keeping the dark shades and bigger sizes at the back and shining the front spotlight on the fun patterns and more petite numbers. Finish off by draping a throw across an arm or back of your suite, not only looking the part but within arm’s reach to snuggle under in the colder seasons.
COMFORT IN COLOURS
Much alike when picking out an outfit, dressing your sofa should either follow a co-ordinating colour palette, or emphasise and own its contrasts.
If you’re not sure where to take hue inspiration from, why not draw it from the shade of your sofa itself? Our new Zinc Sofabed comes in a variety of 13 colourways, and we think cushions and throws in neutral tones with pops of soft pink would look divine on the Blush, such as our Embroidered Pink Cushion as pictured, but equally a mix of black and white patterned pieces would make a strikingly modish statement on the Black.
POISED PATTERNS
The key to making patterns work when decorating your sofa is by choosing complementing pieces. With prints, you can choose to partner pieces of the same pattern in multiple colours, or to link a variety of fun patterns and prints together by keeping a consistent colour connection. Our Blue Poppy Field Cushion and Aztec Blue Cushion are the perfect examples of this, with their shape, size and pattern differences but still delivering a décor dream when their co-ordinating hues are teamed together.
TEXTURED TAILORING
Colours and patterns are the obvious go-tos when vamping up your sofa style, but don’t ever underestimate a good texture. The silky smooth finish of velvet, such as our Washed Velvet Cushion and Velvet Bedspread, provides both softness to the touch and a dynamic light absorbing appearance for a chic couch complement.
Faux fur plays a powerful starring role in our new AW22 collection, and who said we couldn’t channel the same with our homeware? We love creating a texture contrast with our cashmere and tufted cushions, so simple yet effortlessly effective. Wool is also a favourite for the AW months, so wrap up in our Cosy Knitted Throw.
AND THE REST
When your sofa is well-dressed, so should its surroundings. Why not try co-ordinating cushions with a rug, from colours and patterns to textures. A living room look we love is matching our Grey Tipped Cashmere Cushion with our Grey Tipped Cashmere Pelt for a luxe match. You could even take it further by shopping a matching pouffe, we have colours and prints to match our cushions, rugs and throws to make a seamless sofa to setting transition.
Dressing your sofa is an effective way to express your style. We like to give ours a refresh every season synchronising with our wardrobe, but how often you choose to re-dress your décor is completely down to you. If you’re in the mood for a complete couch makeover or just looking for a new living room accessory, we’ve got the homeware you’ve been searching for here.
