With this Christmas looking a little different this year, we will all be spending more time celebrating at home with our loved ones. So as staying in has officially become the new going out, we've launched our #CelebrateWithFC series with some familiar faces to share how they're celebrating the festive season at home. From festive inspired recipes to homemade Christmas cocktails, we've got a little bit of inspiration for everyone.
Sometimes it's hard to define exactly what separates a good party from a great party, but usually it's the music. Music sets the entire tone of for the party; whether it's on softly in the background, or playing loud and getting you dancing around the living room - creating the perfect playlist takes work. We caught up with DJ and Women in Music podcast host, Millie Cotton to talk all things Christmas plans, creating a party (at home) playlist and keeping connected this season. Plus, Millie shares her ultimate Disco Party (at home) Christmas playlist for you to listen and dance to at home.
With Christmas a little different this year, how are you celebrating the festive period?
My mum and step-dad are based in Australia, so I usually go there or we meet somewhere in the middle for Christmas but, of course, that’s off the cards for this year and I’m planning on spending it in Kent with my dad. I think he’s planning on making beef instead of turkey, so all (non-covid related) rules are out the window for this one.
How are you still keeping the magic of Christmas alive this year?
I want to get really dressed up this Christmas. We don’t usually bother but I think it’ll add a little something to what is going to be a very different Christmas day. This year has been great for reflecting on the smaller things that we might usually take for granted, that we should and can be grateful for. I think that’s really important to remember this year when plans might not be what we had imagined.
What are your top 5 party-at-home playlist songs?
Heaven - The Vision
Can’t Get Enough - Soulsearcher
Both of Us - Jayda G
Love Come Down - Evelyn “Champagne” King
The Remedy - T.WIlliams
What are your top tips for creating/curating a party-at-home playlist this season?
Start slow, let people get settled in and warmed up. Then after an hour or so, when people have had a couple of glasses of wine, that’s a good time to start playing something with more of a ‘party’ vibe – whatever that is for you.
Technology is going to play a huge role in keeping people connected this Christmas, how are you planning on staying connected with family & friends?
Anything but Zoom! I got logged off of my own Zoom birthday party. I’m so grateful for FaceTime and being able to see my family that way when we can’t be together in person. I don’t see us eating turkey (or beef in my case) in our various households over Facetime but calling my mum & step-dad in Australia and my brother and his family, who are in Sweden, will be the first thing I do when I wake up.
What will you be wearing Christmas day?
Quick fire round
A real or fake Christmas tree…. Real
Giving presents or receiving them…Giving. I’m a nightmare to buy for!
My all-time favourite Christmas film is…The Holiday
My go-to festive drink is… Hot toddy (is that a festive drink?!)
